Rubber vine Survey and control North and South of the Containment Line
Rubber vine is spreading on land beyond the containment line within CYP and this program is designed to survey and control infestations north and south of this line. An initial aerial survey of the area from the Kendal River Catchment right across the Cape including the Lakefield National Park access road up to the Port Stewart access road was conducted (You can view maps of Rubber vine extent below).
This survey has given the group the ability to target strategic infestations north of the containment line. During August and September crews in partnership with landholders have undertaken control works on strategic outcrops of rubber vine north of the containment line. Work begun at the far most northern infestation found in the Lukin River and have since controlled all infestations within the Lukin Cathchment. Follow up control programs and been set to take place in the Lukin Catchment mid 2010. This project has been funded through the Blue Print for the Bush funding program and Caring for Our Country.
